The core of my teaching methodology includes both technique and artistic expressiveness. The goal is to enable students to work at a comfortable pace, while still challenging them and encouraging growth.

We start by teaching fundamentals to create a solid foundation to build the student's skillset. From there we can build artistic expression and individuality.

Pratice Journaling

Learning how to practice efficiently helps students learn music more quickly, prevents burnout, and creates habits that are applicable in many other aspects of life. Some important parts of efficient practice are developing a growth mindset, creating specific and attainable goals, and learning how to practice.

Practice Tips

Slow it down.

If you're struggling with something, slowing down the music allows your brain and your fingers to stay on the same page.

Use a metronome.

The metronome will help you make sure that every rhythm is correct and that you aren't changing the tempo in different sections.

Take a deep breath.

If you don't get something in one session, maybe you'll get in two or three (or with some teacher help!).

Take breaks.

If you have trouble focusing, set a timer while you're practicing. For example, practice for fifteen minutes, take a five minute break, then repeat the process.

Ask someone to listen.

Often times as musicians, we've listened to a section or piece of music for so long that we struggle to hear improvements in our own playing. Ask someone to take a listen for you!

Come to lessons ready to learn
Prepare materials for review at each lesson
Get comfortable with making mistakes (mistakes are essential to learning!)
Practice! You will get out of lessons what you put into them
Be on time

Bring students to lessons on time
Keep in touch with Kylar Moltzan, especially if there are scheduling conflicts
Make monthly payments on time
Provide lesson materials
Encourage practice (younger students will need more help)

Provide regularly-scheduled lessons
Lessons missed due to teacher absence will be made up
Make-up sessions for face-to-face lessons may be conducted virtually, decided case by case
Expose the student to the elements of good musicianship through the use of proper posture, dynamics, phrasing, articulation, and technique
Encourage musical literacy and theory
Encourage the student to develop life skills including discipline, responsibility, goal-setting, and self-esteem through music study
Prepare the student for auditions, competitions, festivals, honors opportunities, and performances as appropriate
Publicize concerts, events, and opportunities related to the student’s musical studies
Maintain the studio website, and calendar to keep students and parents informed of scheduling and events

A consultation previous to beginning lessons is required, but is free and can be done in person or virtually.
